Great news! If your income isn't too high, you might be eligible for long-term housing assistance through a special program called Section 8, run by HUD. Here in our area, we work closely with Arbor, who administers the Section 8 program. They help people like you find and keep a place to call home.
The Section 8 program is designed to make housing affordable just for you. If you qualify, your rent costs (including estimated utilities) are limited to only 30% of your income. That means you'll have more money for other important things in your life. And here's another fantastic benefit: if your income goes down, you can get increased housing assistance right away. So, paying rent won't be a problem for you.
To be eligible for Section 8, there are maximum income limits based on the size of your household. Each county has its own specific standard. In Chemung County, where we are located, here are the maximum household incomes to be eligible for Section 8:

| 3-$35,100 | 7-$48,300 |
| 4-$38,950 | 8-$51,450 |
Here's a fantastic example to help you understand! Let's say you have 5 wonderful people in your household, and you live in Chemung County. If your total yearly income is $42,100 or less, you qualify for the amazing Section 8 program!
